Harklo is a voice, video, and text messaging app that lets people send voice memos, video memos, text messages, and reactions to people they know.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Harklo is currently in a closed beta, so some features may change as we improve the app.
When you create an account, we may collect information such as:
Harklo may ask for permission to access your contacts so we can help you find people you know who also use Harklo.
When contact discovery is used, we process phone numbers to help identify matching users. We use hashed phone number data for matching where possible. You can control whether people can find you by username, email, or phone number in your privacy settings.
You may also block users or choose contacts who should not be able to find you.
Harklo lets you send and receive:
We store message metadata such as sender, recipient, conversation, thread, timestamps, unread status, and related reaction information.
If transcription is enabled or requested, audio or video content may be processed to generate a transcript. Transcripts may include text and timestamped transcript segments.
Audio and video files you send through Harklo are uploaded to cloud storage so they can be delivered to the people in your conversations.
If you allow notifications, we collect and store a push notification token for your device. We use this token to send notifications about new messages, reactions, threads, group invites, and unread counts.
Depending on your notification settings, notifications may include message preview content, sender names, or hidden previews.
We may collect basic technical information to keep the app working, such as app errors, crashes, stack traces, device type, operating system, and app version.
If crash reporting is enabled, we configure it to avoid intentionally sending personal information where possible.
We may collect or store information about app preferences and settings, such as:
We use information to:
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only as needed to operate Harklo, provide app features, comply with law, or protect the service.
Messages, voice memos, videos, reactions, transcripts, profile information, read status, and conversation activity may be visible to the people in the relevant conversation or group, depending on your privacy settings.
We use third-party service providers to operate Harklo. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to us.
Current service providers may include:
Harklo may use transcription to convert audio or video content into text. This may happen automatically after a message is sent or when you choose to transcribe a message or reaction.
When transcription is performed using a third-party provider, the relevant audio or video content may be sent to that provider for processing. The resulting transcript may be stored in Harklo so you and the people in the conversation can view it.
If you grant contact permission, Harklo uses your contacts to help identify people you may know. You can choose whether others can find you by username, email, or phone number.
You can also manage blocked users and contact discovery preferences in the app.
If you enable push notifications, Harklo may send notifications about messages, reactions, group invites, threads, and unread counts.
You can control notification previews in the app. Depending on your settings, notification previews may show the full content, only the sender name, or hidden content.
You can also disable notifications through your device settings.
Harklo includes privacy controls that may allow you to:
We keep information for as long as needed to provide Harklo, maintain the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
You may request account deletion from within the app. When your account is deleted, Harklo will delete or remove your account information and associated user content where technically and legally feasible.
Some information may remain temporarily in backups, logs, or systems used for security, debugging, legal compliance, or fraud prevention.
Harklo may provide tools to download your data or delete your account.
A data export may include your profile information, conversations, messages, and reactions. Media files may need to be retrieved separately because temporary access links may expire.
Account deletion removes your account and associated content where feasible.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no internet service is completely secure.
Some encryption-related features may continue to evolve during the beta. Do not use Harklo to send information that you are not comfortable sharing with the people in your conversations or processing through the services described in this policy.
Harklo is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Harklo, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Harklo is currently in closed beta. Features, privacy controls, data processing, and service providers may change as we test and improve the app. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the date above and provide notice where appropriate.
